Les corpus comme aide à la traduction : traduire des textes touristiques

Abstract

According to Sulaiman et Wilson (2019, V), the tourism industry has become one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world and a key driver of socio-economic progress through job creation, business creation, export earnings and infrastructure development, and experts agree that there is a close correlation between the development and exploitation of the tourism sector and its promotion through communicative language and translation. The quality of the discourse used to promote a tourist destination is therefore an essential element both in texts targeted at natives and in texts designed to persuade foreigners. In a university course in foreign languages and translation, it is thus important to think about the tools – in particular concordances and monoand bilingual corpora – that can help both in the translating process and in the foreign language learning (more specifically French). These resources can be used to overcome lexical problems arising from the translation of collocations or words denoting the quality of Italian products and services, or that of English words used in Italian texts. This kind of training can improve students’ foreign language learning autonomy and their ability to compile and use these tools.
