A chronicler of monastic life, reading Damian Stănoiu’s work highlights a writer who understood his mission to the end. His heroes – when naive, serene, angelic, when vitriolic, radical, diabolical – are monastic faces, but no inhibitions are placed in the way of a narrative that does not mince its words. The realism of the text is counterbalanced
by the consubstantial humour, which increases its intensity in relation to the norms, the precepts of the universe described. My work seeks to discreetly indicate how these are metamorphosed, what their imprints are in this game of literature, noting that, in fact, we are dealing with an open, „edifying” irony (Jankélévich).
